Symposium: "Onward and Upward: Breaking Through Gender Barriers"

In its 25th year, HWLJ is proud to present our annual symposium "Onward and Upward: Breaking Through Gender Barriers in Law and Tech," where we would like to examine the role modern women have in leadership and positions of power, and specifically the advancement that still need to be made to promote a gender inclusive work place. We are proud to feature House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi as our keynote speaker for this event.  Representative Pelosi and the House Democrats have recently introduced "When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families," an agenda addressing economic challenges women and families still face today. Along with Representative Pelosi, we are thrilled to bring forth an array of panelists to provide a comprehensive overview of the different types of work places women encounter in the Bay Area, including law firms, tech, start-ups, politics, etc., and the specific challenges they face in each one. But far from just examining what is wrong with the modern work place and what gender barriers women of all creeds face in their day-to-day lives, we would also like to look to the future and examine what is currently being done to break down those gender barriers and how women and men can work on changing the persistent inequalities in the work place.

The event will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM in the Alumni Reception Room at the 200 McAllister building of the UC Hastings campus. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM with a continental breakfast. The event will be followed by a wine and cheese reception from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM in the Dobbs Atrium. MCLE credit will be offered for this event. Please visit https://uchastings.webconnex.com/hwljsymposium25 for tickets.
