Fall 2013 Symposium "Onward and Upward: Breaking Through Gender Barriers in Law and Tech"
On October 18, 2013, we were honored to present House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi as the keynote for our event. Leader Pelosi provided a unique insight into the political world as experienced by a woman and discussed the "When Women Succeed, America Succeeds" initiative -- an agenda that "stands on the shoulders of what was accomplished at Seneca Falls by addressing the economic challenges facing women and families today." Leader Pelosi enumerated the three issues that need to be addressed so that women, and their families, can truly succeed today: equal pay, expanded paid medical and family leave, and improved child care. Our three panels featured practitioners, tech professionals, academics, and various experts.
Panel One, "What Works for Women in Law," featured Distinguished Professor Joan Williams as the moderator and included Judge Donna Ryu, Federal Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of CA; Patricia Gillette, Partner at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; Kelly Dermody, Partner at Lieff Cabraser; Teresa Renaker, Partner at Lewis Feinberg; and, Mary Cranston, Ret. Senior Parter at Pillsbury.
